2020: A Preview
2020: A Preview
This post was going to be a double post originally. I wanted to do a review of 2019, and a preview of 2020 in on post, but I find that doing a review of a year that still has a little over 2 months left.... might be a little premature. That being said, a preview for the beginning of a new decade can never be premature.... right? Either way, here we are.
2019 was a really weird year for me, and I expect the last two months to be just as weird as this year itself, and I will get into the details about why I think 2019 was so weird in my "2019: A Review" article when I decide to come out with that. I think the idea of a new decade gives credence to a symbol of rebirth and renewal. We have a whole new decade to start over and make our own. We still will have to be defined by the last 20 years of the 2000's, but we can at least push the negativity we faced in those twenty years out of the way and strive to improve on ourselves and our society in "the roaring 20's".
With that being said, I've decided that I am going to have "20 Goals for 2020". I usually make a giant cardboard list that I hang up somewhere in my basement, forget about and then eventually go 6/25 or 12/25 (Respectively for the last two years). This year, I plan on making more obtainable goals, and more meaningful goals to who I am as a person. I'm looking to make 2020 a year of meaningful growth. So without further ado, my 20 Goals for 2020:

With that being said, I've decided that I am going to have "20 Goals for 2020". I usually make a giant cardboard list that I hang up somewhere in my basement, forget about and then eventually go 6/25 or 12/25 (Respectively for the last two years). This year, I plan on making more obtainable goals, and more meaningful goals to who I am as a person. I'm looking to make 2020 a year of meaningful growth. So without further ado, my 20 Goals for 2020:
- Find what role I play in God's Plan: I would like to have a greater understanding of where I fit in with God's plan and where I can increase my relationship with Him. I don't really know how to quantify completing this goal, but I think it's probably the most important thing to me in 2020.
- Quit Soda: I did pretty good at this one, until my friend Matt got married. I took a break from soda for his bachelor's party, and that break never ended. So here's another go. This goals means high sugar, carbonation drinks. So Bai, Zevia, and other organic carbonated, low sugar drinks are fine. Frozen drinks i.e. Baja Blast Freezes and Slurpees get the pass, too. So basically no mainstream soda.
- Read the Book of Mormon twice and the New Testament once: Pretty Self Explanatory.
- Go to Temple once a month: I tried to do every week this last year, and I burnt myself out, so I at least want to go once a month, which is moderate and doable.
- Try 50 new recipes: I want to eat healthier, and I want to save some money. So I would like to try my hand at new meals that I can eat instead of eating out.
- Run 100 Miles: This is actually a pretty easy goal if I actually put my mind to it. 1 mile a day for 100/365 days. Not too hard. Just about commitment.
- Bike 200 Miles: Same idea as above.
- Read 5 Non-religious books: I watch too much Netflix, and I have a plethora of books just lying around and collecting dust. I would really like to change that.
- Quit Porn: It's going to be 2020. Anyone who thinks that Porn is healthy or normal/natural is feeding into the addiction. It's time to change. The last 3 years, I've had the goal "No Porn", but I think this year, I want to focus on the tools to overcome this addiction. Relapse will happen, but if I can get to a point where I have the tools to no longer get sucked into my addiction, that's a goal complete.
- Travel to somewhere I've never been to before: Pretty self explanatory. Will be going to St. Louis the last weekend of March!
- Learn Meditation skills/maybe get into yoga: Meditation is great for mental health, and for connection to God. Two benefits I could find a lot of value in.
- See my self-worth more fully: I think goes hand in hand with #1, but I had a major mental breakdown in September/Beginning of October because I had a lot of self worth issues I haven't worked through. You can't love others if you don't love yourself.
- Do one thing that scares me every month: A healthy dose of fear and the endorphins that come from overcoming fear are great building blocks to a healthy life.
- Do one act of service every month: I had this one two years ago, and a bunch of good friends were the result of my service endeavors, and I think that service needs to be a big part of my life at some point. So this is a no brainer.
- Find new employment in my current field: I am lucky to be employed with two jobs, but I would like to finally break into my real field for my day job, and I would like that to be in 2020 (if not sooner).
- Get under and stay under 200 lbs: Self explanatory
- Try being vegetarian for a month: This might be my hardest goal, yet. I would like to see if there are health benefits of cutting out meat for a month. Maybe it'll inspire me to limit my intake of meat. The world may never know.
- Mend hurt feelings and broken bridges: I've never been a perfect person, and I know I've done things to hurt others, and I kind of dwell on these things a lot. I'd like to do my best to mend as many hurt feelings that I've caused this next year.
- Get a budget and save money: Again, self explanatory.
- Find something to be grateful for everyday: It's hard to see the good everyday, but I think it's something that needs to be focused on. Especially with how much negativity gets thrown around the internet and daily life. So I'm going to try and find something I am grateful for everyday in 2020.
That's my list! I think it's a good looking one. I also still have 2 months, so if I think of something better than one of these, I will update it, but it will for sure be solidified by Jan.1, 2020.
